The attached garage ranks up there for us as one of our favorite features of the home.  Bringing in groceries, carrying in a sleeping child, and keeping cars dry have been so convenient.  We deliberately made it oversized for extra storage and wanted ample room to walk around cars.  Also essential was a separate access door to the garage from the driveway, which we use all the time and makes getting mail very easy.

The two garage doors were made as large as possible, with one being 8' and one 9'. The wider door easily accommodates a minivan or SUV.  Each has a garage door opener; we opted for the LiftMaster Formula 1 model because it was a bit quieter than the standard one.

A garage "under" the home needs to be well insulated, so we selected higher-grade garage doors with good insulation and insulated the ceiling before covering it with standard fire-code sheetrock.  The result is that on cold days the garage stays warmer than outside and helps prevent heat loss from the family room and living room above it.

On the left side of the garage we opted to extend the space below the basement stairs into the garage to use as space for a snowblower, which fits very well there.  Electrical outlets were added in a couple places, as well as a wall-mounted supply cabinet.
