Welcome Message
Greetings, home buyers! We're Liz & Bill Germino,
owners of 1330 Washington Street in Norwood, and we're grateful
you've taken the time to view our website. We've tried to
be as informative as possible to help you with your major
decision of buying a new home. This site will hopefully
answer most of your questions, but please
call or e-mail us if you have others. Here's some
pertinent information about us...
We designed and built this home in 2002 and customized it
greatly to suit our needs. Most of the customizations
focused on practical, everyday living with the following
objectives:
- Convenience
- Space efficiency
- Time and Energy savings
- Safety and Security
For example, it was more important to have extra space on the
second floor rather than a family room with cathedral ceilings
on the first. We made many decisions where "function"
(practicality) took precedence over "form" (aesthetics).
We did not, however, shirk quality. Throughout the home
are materials, fixtures, and workmanship that reflect high
quality.
We positively "sweated" the details, through literally dozens
of drawings and designs, 3D walk-throughs and renditions, to
hundreds of decisions on items like cabinet knobs, faucet
styles, placement of towel racks, and ceiling speakers. We
researched, sometimes painstakingly, and purchased all the
flooring, appliances, media wiring, intercom system, crown
molding, landscape timbers, and deck railing, to name a few.
Many "product" items rank highly in Consumer Reports. From
the "practical" perspective in making decisions, we considered
things like daily usage, traffic patterns, and "child
friendliness." Some examples of this are manifested in the
various decisions of lighting:
- All light switches use the larger, "child-friendly"
decora switches and plates
- Most fixture lights in the home have 3-way switches
(more than one place to turn on/off the light) in practical
locations
- All bathrooms have two sets of lights, one overhead
(single light) for most uses in the bathroom, and second set
of bright lights around the mirror when extra lighting is
needed. The objective is energy savings.
So why are we moving? Well, in spite of our enormous
time and resource investment in the home, an even greater
priority is to be close to family and friends. When we
moved into this home, Liz's brother and his wife lived
next door with their daughter, and we valued having family so
close (we have four children). We hope to have more
children, but would like to have closer proximity to family and
friends, so we are moving to another home (also in Norwood)
where this is the case. We're trading off some of the
customizations of this home for now, but we hope some day to
build again.
We do hope that the next owners of this home benefit greatly
from its design and construction. Here's the "package" you
get with this home:
- One high-quality, customized, 4-bedroom colonial home
- Owner's manuals to all appliances, utilities, and
fixtures
- Dozens of spare parts for many items in the home
- Copies of the complete building plans with electrical,
framing, and plumbing drawings, and the site plan
- Your own "home" website (we'll keep this website active
if you wish to show family and friends and provide online
directions, and you make any changes you want to it)
We thank you again for taking the time to read this site.
Please contact us with any questions.
Warm Regards,
Liz &
Bill
